Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 6th grade math classroom is an environment full of successes and growth. As a border and a military town you can imagine that the students I teach are diverse. As an educator, I feel it is my job to make a connection with all of my students and to find out what makes them who they are. I have had students come from all over the world due to military deployments of parents as well as having students emigrate here from Mexico, in order to seek a better education.

Learning in my classroom is a mutual relationship, my goal as an educator is to allow my students to help me become an effective teacher and learn as much from them as they are learning from me.

My students all come into my classroom knowing that the environment they are walking into is a welcoming environment to everyone that enters. No matter what their backgrounds may be, the students in my classroom are determined to be successful and pursue goals that interest them.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting are to use in my classroom in order to build a computer that my students can use to get familiar with computer programming as well as computer parts. The reason that I hope this project gets funded is to hopefully inspire my students to pursue new and exciting careers. There are students that want to be video game or graphic designers, and our school currently does not provide anything for these students to learn these skills. By having my students build this computer it will show them that these goals/dreams are not too far-fetched.

By building this custom computer I am hoping it will show my students that when it comes to technology, they can achieve anything that they set their mind to.

Some programs that I plan on running on this computer are photo/video editing software like Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paintshop Pro, and Corel VideoStudio Pro. This software is primarily used for editing photos and videos that the students can then use to share out when they are training others in using apps or websites.

I also plan on running video game design software like Unity and Unreal Engine. The video game software that will be run on the computer will be used to show students basic 3D modeling and textures in a setting that can be manipulated freely. In the end, the goal of this project is to introduce my students into tools that they could use and practice that they could potentially develop into careers.
