My students qualify for free and reduced-price meals, as our school is 100% Title 1 funded. Most students come from low-income families where educational resources are hard to come by. I try to provide them with a welcoming classroom environment, love and support to enrich their daily growth.
My students are so enthusiastic and brighten my day with their dedication and ability not to give up.
My students have a variety of learning and behavioral disabilities. Yet, they have such a passion for learning and a determination to succeed. I would like for my students to have access to supplies and materials that enhance their learning experience and support their unique sensory needs. I want to help inspire them any way I can.
My Project
My students need audio books on CD, portable CD players, and headphone splitters to help establish a classroom listening center. These materials would be used during our reading instruction, individually by students or by students working in pairs.
Listening comprehension is an important skill to develop and strengthen because good listeners grow up to become good communicators.
When a child hears a story, for example, good listening comprehension enables them to understand it, discuss it, and possibly even retell it in their own words. Also, the students will listen to books that model what fluent reading sounds like, which is an important reading skill to have, understand, and practice. This listening center project will allow students to choose books that may interest them but they're not quiet ready to read on their own, and potentially expose them to something that makes them fall in love with reading.
Ultimately, I want my students to become confident readers who are comfortable using a variety of materials, all while experiencing the joys of reading.
