Building a Classroom Library for Lifelong Readers

My Project

I am a new teacher excited to create a warm, welcoming, and literacy-rich classroom for my amazing students. I am fortunate to teach in a diverse community, and my goal is to spark a lifelong love of reading in each child who walks through my door.

My students are curious, creative, and full of questions.

Many come from homes where access to books is limited, and for some, the books in our classroom may be the only ones they can regularly read. My students are eager to learn and explore new worlds, and a well-stocked library can open endless doors for them.

As a new teacher, I'm starting from scratch. I want to build a classroom library that reflects the diversity of my students and offers a wide range of reading levels, genres, and interests. From picture books and early readers to graphic novels and non-fiction texts, I want every child to find books that make them feel seen—and books that take them somewhere new. When kids see themselves in books, it boosts their confidence and engagement. A robust classroom library not only builds literacy skills but fosters empathy, imagination, and curiosity.
