Building a Bridge to an Imaginary World Through Fairy Tales

My Students

My students face challenges, both in the classroom and their day-to-day life, with determination and excitement. My twenty-two students are very culturally diverse. Many of them are second language learners who come from a wide range of life experiences. Most of my students live near or below the poverty line but it never seems to dull their exuberance for learning.

School is a safe place for my students.

At our school, students are able to learn through science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Through hands-on learning, I am able to shape these students into the critical thinkers, mathematics and engineers of tomorrow!

My Project

In a world that is littered in stark realities, I would like to give my students the opportunity to delve into the world of imagination. This project would inundate my classroom with a wide variety of fairy tales. These magical texts would drive our fairy tale writing unit to help students write their own imaginative fairy tales.

Exposing children to fairy tales allows them to explore valuable lessons laden with magic and curiosities.

It also helps students understand and internalize the structure of a story. Using these classic fairy tales, my students will be able to write their own adaptations of stories such as Little Red Riding Hood and Three Billy Goats Gruff. They will be able to become their own storytellers and find the imagination within themselves that is so desperately needed to brighten our world.
