Building a Better Class Library for Bookworms

My students need adventure filled books for literature circles, independent reading and class novel studies.

My Students

My class is full of ready-to-learn middle school students who are looking to grow academically and in their organizational skills. They have multiple subjects in my room and travel to other classrooms throughout the day. In my school, over 92% of students are classified as low income, 35% are English Language Learners and 25% receive Special Education services. They are motivated to succeed and love having DonorsChoose projects, especially those that they lead, to enhance their learning in very meaningful ways.

My Project

My school is rolling out a brand new literacy curriculum. With that comes the need for a variety of adventure-filled books that will keep my middle school learners begging to know what happens next. We use books in whole class novel studies as well as during small group literature circles and independent reading.

Having a range of audiobooks, graphic novels and fiction books will help my learners better understand grade level standards as well as become voracious readers.

There will be enough copies of books so students can take home their copy every night and report back to us on a favorite part, a question about what may happen in the next chapter or even a connection to their own lives. Reading opens doors and lets students learn about a much bigger world.
