This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My inquisitive students come from a low socioeconomic area where access to hands-on STEM materials in their homes are low. They all receive free lunch and some come from foster homes. My classroom is one of the only ways in which their thirst for exploring is met. Therefore, I strive to foster an environment where all their questions have an answer or create new questions to explore.
My second graders are a highly inquisitive bunch of thoughtful thinkers.
Having materials in my classroom is essential in cultivating a rich learning environment. I love to see that glint in their eye after figuring out a solution.
My Project
Blocks Rock are blocks that provide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) hands-on activities to foster a child's creativity in the area of engineering and technology. I will incorporate these blocks as part of my science curriculum. The program contains the blocks as well as a computer program where students work cooperatively in order to build the structure indicated on the tablet. They can also create structures on their own.
Blocks Rocks challenges a child's creativity and builds upon their natural curiosity.
It encourages thinking "outside the box." This thinking is what is needed to foster young minds into future scientists and engineers.
