Help me give my students the texts they want to read! All of these books were requested by students for their independent reading time in class.

My Students
I teach English in a high school in the Englewood neighborhood in Chicago. My students are spectacular rays of sunshine who are bound to go far in life. They are actively engaged in their learning, work hard, and persevere in the face of adversity. Not only that, but they are some of the kindest, most thoughtful children I've ever met. They brighten each and every day.
My Project
These books will help to diversify my classroom library and allow all students to see themselves reflected in the texts they choose to read. My students want to see main characters who share facets of their identities and experience joy in texts--something they know is missing from traditional school curricula. As we work to make reading more culturally sustainable for all, we're implementing independent reading units in my class so that students can self-select their books and reconnect with reading as a joy-filled and relaxing hobby, as well as a way to strengthen literacy and English skills.
These are books that they have personally requested and feel are missing from my current library.
Please help us create the library they want, need, and deserve!
