My students need motivation to read more. My class builds up to read at least 50 minutes, independently everyday. Top readers deserve comfortable places to read. Help me build the Comfy Cozy Zone in my classroom!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a high-poverty school with very little resources. 100% of the students are offered a free breakfast and lunch program. A majority of my students attend a before-school AND an after-school program, leaving them at school for close to a total of 8-11 hours per day. There is no parent involvement in my classroom, as most parents are busy with either work, caring for family members, or attending school themselves. With all of this data, it is amazing to see that my students still put forth their best effort to learn daily and have a passion to thrive, regardless of their lack of resources. It is inspiring to be their educator and it pushes me to gather more and more resources to further their knowledge and their love for learning.
My Project
Students in my classroom set reading goals weekly. Students who reach these goals get to take AR tests to build points in the classroom. Students with the most points become my top readers and get special privileges during independent reading time.
Back pillows give students back support which makes them more comfortable when reading.
Therefore, I am hoping to be able to
encourage students to read for longer periods of time. For two years now, I've bought new pillows for my comfy zone and they wear out quickly! These back pillows are more durable and come with a three year warranty so I'm hoping they will last.
Last year my students were eager to be on the carpet every week and looked forward to finding out who were the lucky 8. Just having a few pillows helped to motivate reluctant readers to read more. I'm hoping adding some extra comfort to my carpet helps push more reluctant readers to keep trying their best.
