My little Kindergarteners are pure perfection and I tell them that every day. Each of my students live below the poverty level in a high-crime area, but each of my students love to come to school, love to learn, and have big dreams. We are working hard towards their goals!
"Ms. New Teacher, will you be our teacher forever?" Since they've had two other teachers roll in and out of their class in only 68 days, it's not surprising that they asked me this question on my first day as their teacher in December.
We all know that children raised in poverty have some cards stacked against them. We all know that having three different teachers in 68 days can't be ideal for 5 and 6 year olds. Please help me create the supportive environment they need to focus on building the foundation of their future education.
I meet with each student daily in a small-group setting, so I can really see how they're developing their phonics skills and moving along to mastery. As I'm meeting with one group of students, the other students need RICH and MEANINGFUL work to do, not just busy work to occupy them.
These letter tiles, letter magnets and word-building cards are relevant and engaging ways for the children to master their phonics skills and grow into confident readers.
I believe that each students should have the opportunity to attain an excellent education and that these supplies will help them along that path.
