My students need music stands to use during class, band rehearsals and concerts, as well as a means of storing and transporting them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Wouldn't it be nice if every student had the opportunity to learn a new instrument and play in a school band? Along with the cost of instruments comes the cost of other necessary supplies - such as music stands and the equipment to store and transport them.
Many of my students have never had the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.
We are hoping to offer band as an after school program beginning in March. However, the school does not own any music stands for students to use while playing their new-found instruments or any means of storing stands that we do receive.
My students come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds. Because of this, private musical instruction has not been an option for many of them. However, they are very eager to begin a band.
My Project
I have had a number of students inquiring about learning to play an instrument and forming a school band and pep band for the sports teams. We have been receiving donations of instruments to start our new program, but we do not currently own any music stands (though another DonorsChoose.org posted project for 12 new stands is almost funded as of the writing of this essay). Without this crucial element, a band cannot be possible. Each student (or even pair of students) needs a stand to be able to place their music on as they learn to hold and play a new instrument. We also need a storage cart to house the stands when not in use and help us transport the stands to various locations for performances/concerts/sporting events.
These stands will be used by countless students over the years as our program continues to grow. The cart will be used each day, year after year. We would like our band to grow from an after school extracurricular activity into a class for the coming school year.
It is our hope that this music program will continue to grow each year.
Many students have asked about a variety of performing groups outside of band, including orchestra, guitar ensemble, and percussion ensemble. Each of these performing groups will need these supplies. Your contribution to this one project will help us with a variety of musical endeavors in the coming months and years.
Thank you for considering us!
