My students are from Utah where we have the lowest per-pupil spending in the nation. My special education students do hard things every day with limited resources. They face daily personal health concerns, challenges at home, and challenges at school. They learn to communicate through assistive technology, sign language, or peer-to-peer interaction.
My students struggle with sensory and social issues that they are working at overcoming on a daily basis through inclusion and life skill classes.
Special Education gives me the ability to support my students' individual diverse learning needs. The fear for families with high-risk children during the COVID-19 crisis is real. My students work tirelessly to succeed and want to learn! This project supports my students' STEM education by providing individual safe supplies for them to use.
My Project
We have a 3D printer in our classroom! My students are so excited to start building and making new and exciting projects. Their teacher forgot to ask for filament to bring their imaginations to life. I am asking for various colors of filament to let my students create without limits.
STEM can be hard to understand with abstract concepts, this gives them concrete manipulatives to reinforce concepts.
I have requested multiple colors for students to create something outside of the box. There are typical primary colors but then fun metallic colors as well.
