Build Like a Designer: Engineering Tools for Young Artists
Help me give my students tools we can use to build and create cool crafts!

My Project
My students are imaginative, hands-on learners who love creating bold sculptures, functional art, and experimental designs. In our visual arts classroom, we often push the boundaries of what art can be—combining form, structure, and movement. But without the right tools, it’s hard for them to fully realize their ideas.
That’s why I’m asking for essential equipment like a Dremel rotary tool, a claw hammer, high-performance batteries, and a bulk pack of thumb tacks.
These simple supplies will empower my students to work like real designers and engineers.
The Dremel tool will allow students to safely cut, carve, sand, and engrave a variety of materials—turning wood, plastic, and even metal into detailed sculptural elements. We’ll use it for everything from 3D mixed-media pieces to custom texturing techniques. The hammer will support projects involving structural builds, armatures, and fastening methods, giving students real experience with tool handling and weight distribution. Thumb tacks will help with installation and kinetic sculpture builds, and the batteries will power classroom tools, lights, and movable art components.
These aren’t just random art supplies—they’re entry points into the world of engineering and creative problem solving. My goal is for students to not only express themselves visually but to develop the confidence and practical knowledge that comes from working with real-world tools. They'll learn how creative and technical thinking can come together in powerful ways.
This project encourages critical thinking, design thinking, and tool literacy—all through the lens of creativity. With your support, students will gain a deeper understanding of how art and engineering can work hand in hand to bring big ideas to life.
Thank you for helping my students learn how to build the world they imagine.
