FULLY FUNDED! Ms. A.'s classroom raised $269
This project is fully funded
I work with students with autism at a NYC Public School on the Lower East Side. The students that I work with with range from kindergarten to grade 5. Each child is unique and amazing in his/her own way in spite of their severe cognitive and language delays. Several of my students are nonverbal and use picture symbols to communicate.
I would like to start a unit on building the ability to socialize with our general education peers. To do this I would like to provide each student with their own communication board. The communication boards would have pictures and words such as: hello, how are you?, want to play a game?, what's for lunch?, etc.,printed on them. Students will learn to point to the desired picture to communicate with a peer. These communication boards would allow students to experience the joy of making new friends in the school environment.
For these materials to be lasting and usable for these special students, I need to laminate them. However, I lack the resources to get this done. A laminator and laminating paper would allow me to provide my students with better communication systems, truly enhance their learning, and allow them to participate in one of the most valuable life experiences-- making friends.
