This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. They have prepared to learn and try their best to achieve high expectations every day. Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Engagement is key for my students and I want them to be engaged in their learning and succeed!
I want my students to learn to read, be successful, and have fun at the same time. I focus on the potential and growth of the children. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning, their engagement in learning activities, and their desire to focus during these uncertain times!
My Project
These books will support the print-rich classroom that I had provided for my students. Without a classroom library to select books to read, my students will not get the practice needed to apply and improve reading skills. Because we had no notice of school closings and a lack of funds from parents, reading could be stalled for my littles. First graders are new to reading and although they can read books online that is not practical for my new readers.
My students need a book in hand to establish proven reading strategies that foster good readers.
I would like to provide each student with several books. There is a class set of two books, so we can read together and attain some form of normalcy in our lessons. The book about kindness will foster a sense of doing good deeds and the feeling of confidence such actions provide. After repeated readings, my students will be able to choose from the variety of books provided, which will allow them to read independently at their own grade level. Please help us to continue our reading lessons from home by providing books for first grade students! Thank You!
