Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Exploring our environment with hands-on SCIENCE, using what we learn to increase our KNOWLEDGE! I am a Pre-K teacher with a class of 19 students in a high-need community.
My students get so excited over science activities. They have limited use of english, but with hands-on activities I will be able to develop their ability to express themselves using english to share thoughts on the things they have an interest in, while developing the school-based skills they will need for success in the future.
Through the use of various science materials, like a butterfly garden, the children can learn so many things. They will not only witness nature at its best, but the will learn new vocabulary words, increase basic mathematical skills, and will be introduced to a wide range of text material related to the topic. My students will take the things they learn within the classroom, and will then use their new skills to explore the environment outside of the classroom, to search for insects, and will use vocabulary to tell what they have found, to describe its attributes, and to then talk with their fellow classmates about their discoveries. Students will learn about seeds and how plants grow. They will plant flowers and vegetables to see the life cycle of a plant. They will also read a variety of texts on the subject and increase their vocabulary usage related to the topic and the environment in which they live. My students will learn to sort, create patterns, count, sequence events, and they will increase their knowledge of their environment, and their basic vocabulary.
You can help make the difference in the lives of my students. You will assist them in learning to care for the environment in which we live to make the world a better place for all of us. It only takes one person to inspire a child to do great things, to show them that learning is fun and exciting, and best of all you can help a child develop a love for education and for SCIENCE!
