My students are eager to learn! They come to school wanting to learn and ask lots of questions. My students are always looking for ways to share with others the projects we are doing in our classroom. Our school is a magnet school in a large, urban school district. The school is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. As an IB program, we focus on global themes that students can relate to and want to know more about.
At our school, we encourage inquiry and questioning of how things work and why.
We focus on hands-on inquiry. We believe in the power of choice and having lots of options to help us learn.
My Project
This project will provide materials to help students see up-close-and-personal examples of insects. Students will observe Painted Lady Larvae transform into butterflies! The Lady Beetle Larvae will show students the 4 stages of complete metamorphosis. Mealworms will change into beetles. The Ladybug and Butterfly Life Cycle sets will enable students to act out what they are seeing. Being able to see different animals go through their life-cycle enables students to understand the process much better than just hearing about it or watching a video.
If you can open students eyes to the love of science, you can open the door to their futures.
The project will make a difference and help us to explore the world of insects. We will learn more about how to share the planet with insects and see why they are important! And, as a final note, I don't want my students to be afraid of any insect.
