Bug Buddies Garden Day

My Project

Our kindergarteners are becoming environmental stewards by leading a student-driven project to protect pollinators, care for trees, and support the environment around our school. Through this hands-on project, they will learn how to attract helpful insects like bees and butterflies while managing rhino beetles that harm our trees.

Students will use butterfly nets, bug catchers, bee feeders, butterfly feeders, and bee hotels to create habitats for pollinators and observe their behaviors.

They will also help protect our trees by cleaning up dead wood and placing designated beetle logs away from plants, preventing damage caused by rhino beetles. These activities will teach them how to care for nature and the importance of balancing support for both bugs and plants.

The community our students are serving includes our school and the surrounding neighborhood. By creating a pollinator-friendly garden and caring for trees, our kindergarteners will enhance the beauty and health of our shared spaces, benefiting everyone who visits our school. The project will culminate in a “Bug Buddies Garden Day,” where students will share what they’ve learned with other classes.

To make this happen, we are requesting gardening gloves, pruners, storage bins, bug field guides, and the materials mentioned above. These tools will allow students to take the lead in preserving our environment, educate others, and create lasting change. Your support will help our students become confident, curious, and compassionate leaders for a greener future!
