My Project
Every year kids make a list of the life skills that they think they need to master before they graduate and budgeting is top on the list. We want to partner with local bankers who have volunteered to come in and teach students about budgeting. From the envelope system to the 50/30/20 rule, we want to teach kids different ways to budget and have them try some to see what style works before for them with the goal being that they learn to budget while they are in high school so they can take that skill forward with them into adulthood. Games like monopoly can be used to teach about money in a fun way and talk about financial concepts like capitalism vs communism in a fun way. The banking edition of monopoly allows kids to act as bankers and includes things like compound interest which is an important idea for teens to understand.
