My students need basic art materials such as markers, crayons, glue, and crayons to be used to create art projects with their big buddies. They also need 5 copies of "Bullying in Schools."
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How can children really express their creativity with their Big Buddies, with just a box of 24 crayons and dried out markers?
This project is for 2 classes.
My class is a wonderful make up of 24 kindergarteners. The second class is our big buddy class and they are made up of 24 fourth graders. Together the children do activities, read together, go on field trips together and the big kids teach the little kids life skills and teamwork, cooperation and proper game play.
My school is in an area that is 98% Hispanic, with Spanish and English as the main languages. The children are not exposed to many negative images on the news and neighborhoods. Gangs are around and bullying is progressing more and more. Our children need to learn about positive role models and good choices.
Our school is in a very low income neighborhood. The children are all on Free Lunches and we are a Title 1 school. The parents and I want the best for their children and we will work together to help provide all that is needed to help their educational and social education.
My Project
One of the most important activities the big and littles do together is create works of art. The little students are just learning how to draw and paint and the older students do not get a lot of time for art. Our art supplies are very limited and rationed. We get a box of crayons for each student and a few markers, but not enough. If we run out or want to create we usually have to go out and buy the materials.
I am asking for copies of the book "Bullying in Schools" to be used during discussions with the big students. I have some copies, but not enough for each 4th grade student. I am also asking for little PipSqueak Markers and crayons that the children can use and are easier for them to hold. The scented markers both stimulate the senses and are bold and bright in colors. The construction paper crayons work better than any crayons on construction paper and are a great resource for the classroom. I want the older students to really be able to help the little students create.
I am asking for 5 copies of the book "Bullying in Schools" Crayola Crayons, Crayola Pipsqueak Markers, Crayola Model Magic, Crayola Twistables and Glue.
These materials will be used with our Big Buddy/Little Buddy program to help create masterpieces and express themselves and learn all about art . Art is a positive resource and outlook to avoid bullying. Let's teach the children at a young age positive options through the arts.
