Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how it felt to be able to go to the library and find exactly what you needed? My students are having a difficult time doing just that because of a shortage of storage bins. Our classroom library would look beautiful and organized with bins labeled by subject and reading level.

My students are enthusiastic budding readers who enjoy books.

They attend an inner city school in Southern California. Most students come from families with limited resources and limited formal education. Students enjoy coming to school and are especially eager to read books from our classroom library. The closest library is not within walking distance and parents mainly use the bus as their primary transportation.

My Project

Over the years I have collected a good collection of books for my students from various subject areas and from various levels. In order to make it more accessible to students, it would help to have bins to sort the books. Many of my students are struggling readers and it would help if the books were sorted by reading level and by subject. Students use the library throughout the year to read and to find information for writing reports. I plan to code the books with a label and to label the bins. The more students read at their level, the better readers they will become and the more they will enjoy books. My students are English Language Learners and have a difficult time reading. I know it will make a difference to finally have a well stocked and organized library.

An organized and attractive library will help students improve their reading and acquire a life-long love of books.

It's important to offer students as many opportunities to read. Having the books organized will facilitate using the library throughout the day. Thank you for your donations.
