Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are inner city kids who think going places like art museums is "fancy". They tend to be the second or third generation of immigrant families. My students enjoy challenges, working with their hands and materials to figure out solutions, and beating their own bests. They are from families who work hard to make the best of life in the big city of Southern California.
My students are building capacity with technology in academics, but lack equity in resources.
My Project
My third graders are expected to utilize technology in research and practice, but they have limited access to computers throughout the day.
My third graders have a familiarity with technology for play and entertainment, but they need to develop a capacity for using technology to research, learn, and present.
Chromebooks in my classroom will give my students the opportunity to use technology with greater flexibility: for developing science and engineering skills, as a research and presentation tool, and for practicing math.
Google Chrome Education Licenses will allow me to interact with students as they work, and for multiple students to use each device for their individual projects. Having Chromebooks available in the classroom will help enable my students to have time to develop the technology skills they need to be successful and have a better understanding of the world around them.
