This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Nelson Mandela believed, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". As a teacher in a high poverty, low income, and increasing crime rate school district, I too agree with Mr. Mandela. My students face many challenges in and out of school. Despite the challenges they face daily, I am looking to ensure a fun, creative, and impactful learning experience.
My students love to dance, they love to read, and they really love to come to school.
Many of my students are being raised by family members other than their parents. Those who are fortunate to live with their parents are living below the poverty rate. These factors may prevent them having the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I want to continue to create a safe place where my students are encouraged to reach their fullest potential and grow. I may not be able to control their lives at home, however, I can control their experience at school. By providing a creative and fun learning environment, it is my hope to ensure my students reach their academic potential and dream bigger than their present circumstances will allow them to imagine!
My Project
Technology sometimes hinders the creativity and possibilities a lesson can have in my classroom. My focus is to engage my students to learn using the tools they are most comfortable with. I need help doing that. Providing the Surface tablet, allows for my students to publish their writing in a unique, yet comfortable way. This tool will be used all around the school. Inspiration can happen any where. I want my students to be able to write as they are inspired. I know the Microsoft Surface can make this possiblity into a reality, as it is portable and very convenient.
