Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazingly resilient youths, who are back on campus full time after 18 months of Covid-related shutdowns and part-time learning models. They live in a small rural community outside of a larger urban region, and love to talk about their animals and outdoor activities. Many do live in lower income households and are so appreciative of even the smallest gestures of kindness. Our Native American and migrant populations, in particular, are large and quite amazing.

My Project

This project calls for watercolor pencils and bleeding tissue paper to be used on proper art paper. Most of my students have never used these quality art supplies.

In a portable classroom with no sink, art projects can be extra challenging but with these supplies, students will learn proper artist techniques while having fun doing it.

They will learn that art is an expression of oneself, as well as the world around them.

Students will also be able to further their understanding of core subjects like math and literature through art. For example, one of our first projects will be to integrate geometry with Cubism.
