This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to have new art supplies and a blank sheet of paper? The possibilities were endless. Our school does not have enough money to provide this experience for our students. My students are ready to unleash their artistic potentials.
My students are imaginative, artistic and curious about the world around them.
They attend an inner city school in Southern California. Most students come from families with limited resources and limited formal education. Students enjoy coming to school and are eager to express themselves through art. Recently, a high school art student came to my class to share her portfolio with students. My students were inspired and excited to try to create art themselves using the tools this student had used.
My Project
With these materials students will be inspired to unlock their creativity and create beautiful works of art. Students will use these materials to work on still life drawings and paintings throughout the year. During Art students will learn about basic art principles such as value, line, shape and color. Different mediums will allow them countless opportunities to use their artist eyes to make sense of the world around them. Activities in visual perception will refine students' observation skills and teach them to stay focused as they complete a project. Students will share their artwork with their peers in order to get constructive feedback. This will create a supportive artistic community in my class.
In these times of budget cuts, art supplies are the first on the chopping block.
Your donations will show students that Art is as valuable as the other subject areas. Receiving beautiful art supplies will support students' development of their imagination and creativity. Currently we are using last year's watercolor sets and oil pastels. Thank you for your donations.
