This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

During the years that I've taught at our school we've had 1500 to 1800 students annually. We educate 6th, 7th, and 8th graders with the majority of them following into the economically disadvantaged category.

Our students are special because we view all obstacles as opportunities to showcase problem solving skills using their intelligence.

We believe all of our students can and will be successful. However, all of our students are not involved in extracurricular physical activities. So as educators we support the entire well being of our students.

My Project

My goal is to take the drum and store bucket and allow the students to exercise while drumming to the beat. I would like to incorporate kinesthetic and sensory activities in physical education. The exercises will involve upper and lower body while focusing on the drumming patterns.

Incorporating exercise balls and drumsticks with physical movement and music will allow all types of learners to be successful.

The drumming patterns are choreographed to music adding to the development of timing and rhythmic movements. The movement makes the experience a total mind-body experience; and cognitive studies have shown positive brain development when music is involved.
