My Project

DIS' STEM club is now in it's second year. We have been able to get coding items for our youngest students (Grades 2-3) and our oldest students (Grades 5-6). We are in need of coding materials to help bridge the gap from easy coding to our more advanced coding.

Ozobot Evo's use color coding - This means students will be using markers to draw color combinations for the steps they want their robot to do.

For example, drawing red/black/red makes Ozobot move slow, blue/green/red has it go "nitro" mode fast. Since they will be using color combinations they will be able to design the speed, directions/special moves, and implement timers. Students will be collaborating in groups to learn the basics of color coding. Eventually, I would like to incorporate storybooks into this. So for example, design the path that a character took in the story.

Due to this nature of this project, students will definitely need grit, determination, perseverance, critical thinking and problem solving. Fourth grade will use the following standards: HE.4.R.1.4, HE.4.R.4.1, HE.4.R.4.2
