This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
As a teacher in our school's Career, Community, and Connections programming, I will be supporting our young men and women with disabilities in both the school, community, and work settings. In the classroom, we will learn various skills such as independent living, vocational, computer, and employability. In the community, we will put those theories into practice.
My students will be interning at the Museum of Science and Industry, accessing the employment environment via public transportation.
I have a classroom of 13 students who I will be instructing throughout the school year. As you can imagine, we are a classroom family and I yearn to see them all succeed. A major component of that success will be attributed to ensuring that each and everyone is prepared for the weather elements. While I have identified a need for some students to own their own personal winter gear, I have also had a few students advocate for their own needs. The requested gloves, hats, scarves and socks will be available for all students if they do not own a set, lost an accessory or forgot an item(s) at home. Please consider funding and/or sharing our project to help make our dreams a reality this winter.
