My Students
Our school is an academically successful, rural, high school that is filled to the brim with about 900 wonderful students. We serve our military community as well, pulling in students whose parents work.
In the state's ranking system, our high-performing high school has been ranked as a top ten public high school in NC for eleven consecutive years.
Through our state's report card system, we have been given an "A" designation, the only school in our district or county to have such a mark. We have earned this distinction for the FIFTH year in a row. And we are very proud of it!
On September 13, 2018, our community was hit by Hurricane Florence. Almost exactly one year later, our county and community were hit by another hurricane - Hurricane Dorian. However, these hurricanes might have re-shaped us, but definitely won't define us. When COVID-19 shut down the school and sports season in March 2020, we were devastated to end our inaugural season so quickly. We are dedicated to making a strong comeback this season and can't wait for it to begin.
My Project
Last year was the first year that the high school I coach at fielded a girls lacrosse team. We had a lot of interest and some really good talent that had played at the youth level. We were able to start a program and compete in our local high school conference. However, Covid-19 forced the cancellation of the rest of the school year and our lacrosse season, after playing only 4 games. Covid-19 is still having an effect on our school and athletics, and because of this, our sports seasons have been modified and shifted around. This season we will be playing in January and February instead of March so I would like to order winter beanies for the girls to wear on the sidelines and for warmups.
