This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a barrier-free Title I funded school, home to over fifteen hundred students, with over seventy languages spoken. My children are resilient, dedicated, and determined to overcome any obstacles that they may need to overcome to soar to new heights. I am in awe of their perseverance and how they strive to be the best possible. To say that I am proud to be their teacher is truly an understatement.

The global pandemic has really ravaged our community and many of the families in my school are in transition or interim shelter or due to the loss of employment they are having difficulty paying their rent.

Our school community has always rallied together to make sure that our families have the basic necessities that they need to survive.

My Project

Our school community was severely impacted by this global pandemic. Many families in our school community were displaced during this time and are currently residing in nearby transitional or interim housing or in the process of being placed there. Our children do not have any blankets of their own to keep them warm during the cold nights. This has impacted their sleep and makes it hard for them to work to their fullest potential academically. This project will enable our students and their families who have hit on hard times to be warm and cozy during the brutal winter and arrive at school the next day ready to learn.
