New experiences, new journeys, and new challenges. This embodies not only my students, but also my own exploration. This is my first year teaching literacy to kindergarten students. I've had a lot of experience working with kindergarteners, but not in the comfort of my own homeroom. There are so many books, activities, resources, etc. out there that these young students deserve to explore.
I want my students to be explorers, authors, readers, and dreamers.
However, they need certain supplies to help them achieve their goals. As they begin their school journey, they need a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, where they can begin to explore, write, read, and dream. These students have a passion for reading and writing, and I'd love to foster their curiosity through fun and creative outlets.
My students hail from the city of Chicago.
My Project
Our room is located in a field house, set back from the main building. Out here, we struggle to find space that we can use productively. Right now, our "just right" books are sitting on an old bookshelf that is not easily accessible to my kindergartners. This shelf would allow them to access their books independently and have them organized by independent reading level.
This shelving unit would house all of our leveled books, save precious classroom space, and is small enough for them to access on their own.
The magnetic shelves would allow me to display high interest books and books related to what we are studying, as well as really brighten up our room!
