The novel Brothers in Arms from the Bluford Series has been a favorite of my middle school students for years. My students identify with the protagonist and his struggles to communicate with his mother and find his place at a new school. This novel sometimes serves as a "gateway drug" for new avid readers who go on to read the sequel and many of the other titles in this series.
I am requesting a class set of Brothers in Arms for my students to use as we learn class routines involving discussion circles and close reading of articles related to healthy and unhealthy ways of dealing with grief.
In addition, I am requesting two sets of additional books from this series so that students can continue to read about the characters in this book.
