This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are mostly from lower-income households, where their families are either struggling to get by or experiencing the hardships of mothers, fathers and even siblings living apart from one another, many times in another country. They end up in our schools with a variety of needs, often times not speaking the language, having any family near, or sometimes sharing living quarters with relative strangers.

Our students are immigrants and minorities, many who come with very little by way of money or experience and need something to keep them motivated and excited to keep coming to school every day.

We love them all the same, and so we decided to create a baseball team that will allow them to develop bonds with others who have similar interest, on a baseball diamond where the grass is always green and it isn't over until the fat lady sings.

My Project

Anyone who has played sports or has been part of a team knows the feeling and bond that individuals create and sustain over time when they're part of a team.

These boys, some of who are NYC's neediest, hold that bond and live for this baseball team.

The reality is that these donations are going to shape the future of these students and those who come after them. That being said we're reaching out because we don't have a gym to practice in and we need batting nets and tees where students could hit balls off safely into, while being in a classroom setting during practice. The training gloves will allow our players to develop better hand-eye coordination. The equipment bags are just as important as the rest of our supplies, being that we get to games on the train or bus. Having these key items will allow us to hold practice nearly every day and carry out our mission of nurturing and developing the young men of tomorrow.
