Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Mathematics, English Language Arts and Social Studies to a self-contained class of seventh grade students with special needs. There are eleven students in my class. My students' math levels range from first grade to fifth grade.
Mathematics is a subject that all eleven of my students struggle with. Hands on activities prove to be the most successful. I struggle to find materials to use with the lessons.
Many of my students have expressed interests in future careers which require a solid math background. I want to lay a strong foundation for for them to build upon for the several years of math education they will need to fulfill their dreams.
Math manipulatives make math come alive for my students. The hand held objects can be used for lessons dealing with fractions, geometry, algebra, measurement and so much more. The objects they use to learn and reinforce math lessons make the difference between a lackluster lesson and an engaging activity that the students will share with their family and friends!
