This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My diverse classroom is composed primarily of English Language Learners in a high poverty area. My students come from different academic, linguistic, and socio-cultural backgrounds. They are eager learners who need time, understanding, and a friendly environment that gives them the security and opportunity to discover themselves and their world.
Most of my students start 2nd grade without reading or writing.
Our school does not have a library, so it is in the classroom that students have the opportunity to read and listen to stories, to learn about their world, and to discover how much they can do for the future.
My Project
Recently, our classroom desktop stopped working so I need a laptop to replace it. I still have students learning from home while they are sick or in quarantine. Most of my students work below grade level and they cannot afford missing learning days.
The laptop will allow me to open my Google Classroom for my remote students while teaching in person in my classroom.
It will give me more flexibility allowing my students at home to see the instruction happening in the classroom and engage in learning.
Additionally, this laptop will provide different opportunities to make learning more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching same things in new ways. For instance, taking students on virtual field trips and using other online learning resources. This computer will encourage a more active participation in the learning process which can be hard to achieve through remote learning.
