My Project
My students are aspiring artists from all over New York City. My actors and singers love to check out sheet music to practice audition pieces and learn new songs. Many of them will go on to work professionally in musical theater--like alums from the cast of 13, & Juliet, and Parade. Students come into the library and ask where the music is: they want to peruse the shows or look for a song they heard on Spotify that they can learn.
Having high-interest, varied musical scores will encourage students to develop their music theory, sight-reading and performance skills.
Bolstering our existing collection of classic scores (The Sound of Music, 1776, Pippin, Company) with new scores will help them expand their repertoire and pursue their passion. I cannot wait to display the score from Strange Loop, Six: The Musical, Bring it On! and Parade. They will be delighted and I know these will fly in and out of the library. These scores will support the learning students do in their studio classes and give them a bank of sheet music to borrow--instead of having to buy it online. Not only does this collection support their learning, but also nurtures their development of self and pursuit of music. Thanks for thinking of my amazing artists.
