Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This class set of Gabi, a Girl in Pieces will be used with my 11th grade Mexican American lit class. These students are invested in learning about different perspectives and cultures. They would benefit from reading texts they would not normally be exposed to. "Gabi" is a text told through the perspective of a Mexican American teenager and would provide insights that may broaden their understanding and allow them to form connections to cultures they may not be familiar with.
My students are bright, energetic, and open-minded learners.
Their analysis of this text will serve to expand their thinking and viewpoint on important themes and topics. They will be able to engage in meaningful discussions around topics, such as growing up, familial dynamics, and the impact of various forms of addiction.
