My Students
My students attend an early childhood center for preschool through 2nd grade in the city of St. Louis. Every day I come to school I am always impressed with the resiliency of these children. They are survivors. At the same time, they are still children. They love to play singing and clapping games, use puppets, scarves, play instruments and creating choreographed dances.
It's wonderful to see their faces light up with joy when they are having fun in music.
The students are passionate about music and life. They enjoy performing in the classroom and for various audiences in the school. A few times they would spontaneously start singing songs for our spring concert in the cafeteria. A table of girls was excited to sing the solo and a healthy competition ensued.
When I came into my first music room, there were no instruments except for some broken tambourines and a box of triangles. Luckily, I was able to borrow various instruments from another school in the district. I am hoping to get sponsored to purchase more instruments and resources for my students.
My Project
Our music room has never had a Smart Board/Projector or TV to display lessons virtually and in person. How helpful it will be to project presentations, demonstrations and lessons in the music room. We've always kept it old school and have used a hands on learning approach to music. That will still be central to learning but there are many advantages to having this technology in the music room that will help amplify learning especially after COVID. Last year was my first year on a cart and I saw a lot of value in having a TV or other way to project my computer up onto a monitor.
Your donation will help our students attend virtual field trips, virtual concerts and learn about other cultures from around the world through music.
Students enjoyed videos and lessons from the Carnegie Hall Musical Explorers Program that I started last year with students. We learned about music and cultures from many countries including South Africa, Hati, Georgia, Native American, Freedom Songs and Argentina. Now I want to take them further and learn more about the amazing array of cultures that our wonderful world has provided us with. There are so many resources on the internet that are readily available for type of learning. Help me connect students to these valuable resources with this Samsung TV!
