This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are unique because they are newcomers to the United States of America. Majority of the students have very limited English when they arrive. Moving to a new country as a high school student, makes learning English a difficult task.

The students are expected to learn a new language while simultaneously learning new content in their subject area classes, such as Algebra, Chemistry or Economics.

My goal is to provide every opportunity for my students to develop the skills necessary to become successful regardless of their language barrier.

My Project

My students want to learn English and do well in school. Many are not progressing as fast. The students are in need of a good picture dictionary to support them in their content classes. When working with my students, I spend time searching for images to bring to life a particular concept that we are learning. This is a time-consuming method that takes away from our learning time.

The Oxford Picture Dictionary would alleviate the time spent searching for images and we could dedicate more time to discussion and learning new material.

This dictionary is a collection of topics and vocabulary words to support specific concepts. There are also guided conversations available for the students to practice their English.
