Bringing the Gold Rush to Life

Help me give my students the opportunity to travel back in time by providing gold rush pans to simulate panning for gold and prizes to simulate the market of the time with their gold findings.

My Students

I teach 32 scholars in a rural community located in California at an aspiring STEM magnet elementary school. Our school goal is to incorporate science into all aspect of the classroom and improve students' reading skills overall.

Eager is the best word to describe my students.

They're eager to learn, eager to create, and eager to be inspired! They are compassionate and inquisitive about the world around them. I am fortunate to teach a classroom of diverse learners which include children who are overcoming many personal adversities.

In a typical school day students are collaborating, interacting with technology, and being put through academic and social challenges. My scholars yearn for ways to explore their inquiries from the world of science and figuring out how to navigate socially.

My Project

Our 4th grade scholars are learning about the great history of California, including the California Gold Rush. Help create lifelong memories for our scholars by allow us to relive the past in our Gold Rush simulation day. It is a time honored tradition for the 4th graders at San Benito Elementary to travel back in time to the days of the 49ers in a day filled with panning for "gold" (copper BBS), using their earnings to spend on items going fast in the "general store", as well as play traditional western games and activities. Students will experience not only the past, but the economics of the time, in a fun and engaging way. Your generous donation will help supplies the panning tools to be reused year after year and prizes for this event.
