Bringing the Common Core to the Second Grade

My students need common core learning centers, write and wipe boards, and practice cards to understand how fast the world is changing and these resources will help prepare my students for the new world.

My Students

This common core centers will help my students understand how to read information text, they will learn how to find the key information in this type of text. In second grade for a lot of students this text is new. The math centers will help the concepts become concrete in my second graders minds

My students love to work together and that is just want these centers will do.

The common core standards have changed how teachers teach. The standards are more challenging for the students and teachers need to be sure they are helping to reach all the students. Using these common core standard centers I will be able to see that each student is challenged at their level.

My Project

The first two items I am requesting are reading centers. These centers will help my students to learn how to read informational text. This will enable them to read newspapers and articles which are such important skill. The second reading center will expose them to all the different type of reading genres from poetry to fiction and folk tales just to name a few. This will help the students to develop the skills to be successful. The math center package is the last of my requests and this will help to reinforce and cement all the second grade math standards. This will be a daily review for the students to keep the concepts fresh in their minds.

My students are from a very small town and they lack some the basic school supplies.

This will help my students to be successful. Some of my students are behind in the academics these centers will help my students to reach their goals. These centers will bring reading informational text and with all genres exciting. They will learn skills to help them find the key information. The math center will help them learn the concepts needed to be successful in second grade.
