My Project
I teach 11th grade English at a public high school in Louisville, Kentucky, and every year I watch my students come alive when they connect to a story that truly speaks to them. This year, I want to give them that experience through Stephen King’s novella The Body: a powerful coming-of-age story about friendship, loss, and the moment we realize we’re not kids anymore.
I’m seeking your help to purchase 60 copies of The Body so each of my students can hold their own book, annotate it, and engage in meaningful, shared reading.
Many of my students do not have access to books at home, and classroom sets are limited or outdated. This project would give every student a fresh, personal copy they can return to as we study character, theme, voice, and the art of narrative storytelling.
The Body is not just engaging—it’s literary. Though Stephen King is best known for horror, this novella is widely respected for its emotional depth, rich prose, and timeless themes. It’s a perfect bridge between classic literature and contemporary voices, meeting students where they are and pulling them into the world of reading. For reluctant readers, this story opens a door. For avid readers, it offers depth and discussion. For all students, it reminds them that books can speak directly to their lives.
Your support can help turn reading from a chore into a journey—and give every student in my class the chance to feel seen, challenged, and inspired. Thank you for investing in their growth and in the power of literature.
