This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a high-tech world. However, many of them do not have the technology available at home to keep up with the ever changing world. These days, there are so many teaching and learning tools available online. I want my students to be as up to date as private and suburban schools.
My students are sixth graders at a dual-language school in Boston.
They love to read, think critically, and participate in discussions. They are eager and earnest learners. Having Chromebooks would greatly assist them on their road to becoming bilingual and biliterate adults.
My Project
Currently, many of my students do not have access to a computer at home. If I want to use computers in school, I have to reserve them and hope that another teacher hasn't booked them. If each student had a Chromebook, I could post homework and respond to one anothers' comments, making homework more interactive and engaging. Also, as students answer questions, I will have immediate data ready in order to refine my lesson plans. Students will be more comfortable typing, a necessity in today's world. Lastly, we would be saving a ton of paper! Student work would be stored on the Google Drive. The possibilities for innovative projects would be endless!
My students are eager learners, and love innovative projects.
We have done many projects using computers, and would love to do more. I teach social studies and language arts. My students read a lot of news articles, which are easier to find online. They also do a lot of research projects. They would greatly benefit from having these available to them!
