This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at a magnet middle school that has a mix of magnet and zoned students. I teach technology elective classes that focus on media and design. The majority of my students are from low-income households and from very diverse backgrounds.

My students love technology and being creative.

However, many of these students do not have access to technology outside of school. I try to make opportunities for my students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media.

My Project

My students will be learning how to tell stories through stop motion animation. Their stories will help them express their emotions and develop coping strategies for various topics related to mental wellness and personal growth. The small figures of people and animals will help students to creatively tell their stories and the DIY miniature kits will be used as collaborative activities to encourage building relationships within small groups. These activities will help build social and emotional skills as well as develop and create aniamtion projects that they can share with the class.
