Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Transitional Kindergarten students are a group of creative, curious, active, caring and enthusiastic learners. Daily Zoom meetings have replaced our in person classroom time, but our virtual community continues to thrive and these little learners are showing up every day for our Zoom meetings with smiles on their faces to hear stories, share the work they have been doing at home, to sing songs, and to continue to learn important concepts that will help prepare them for Kindergarten next year.
My Project
Engaging young children in the online classroom format requires using materials that capture their attention and allows for learning, fun and laughter. Using puppets and retelling props such as felt boards to tell and retell stories, really helps these young learners interact and engage with stories.
These props add another dimension to my online storytelling and will allow for a deeper understanding of characters, plot, setting and the sequence of stories I am telling.
This leads to an increase in reading comprehension, vocabulary development and is beneficial for supporting English learners while teaching online.
