My Project
My name is Joe Finch, and I teach 5th grade in Kelseyville, California. Currently, our curriculum only allows us to read single chapters from selected novels, which limits their literacy experiences. With your support, I aim to provide my students with classroom sets of C.S. Lewis' "The Magician's Nephew" and Grace Lin's "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon" to help enrich my students lives and increase their literacy.
My students are a vibrant group with diverse backgrounds and boundless curiosity.
They are eager to delve deeper into the books we explore, often expressing a desire to read beyond the limited excerpts provided. Many face economic challenges that prevent them from accessing a wide range of literature outside of school.
The two novel sets are:
"The Magician's Nephew" by C.S. Lewis: This fantasy novel tells the powerful story of a young set of friends on a fantastical adventure exploring new fantastic words.
"Where the Mountain Meets the Moon" by Grace Lin: This fantasy adventure weaves Chinese folklore with the journey of a young girl seeking to change her family's fortune, emphasizing themes of hope, perseverance, and the importance of storytelling.
With these novel sets, my students will immerse in rich literature, gaining incredible learning experiences through whole-class reading, literature circles, creative projects, and comparative analyses.
Providing full sets of these novels will enrich our reading program, enhancing students' reading comprehension, critical thinking, and empathy, while igniting a lifelong passion for reading. Your support will have a lasting impact on their education, offering them the literary experiences they deserve.
Thank you for considering a donation to our classroom. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to enriching our literary curriculum.
