Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 16 wonderful students who have been identified as individuals within the Autism Spectrum Disorder. They want to learn everything about anything. They come from a low socioeconomic background, with limited resources available. Students who at times need new things to challenge their way of thinking and working with others.
My middle school students are incredible; they are eager to learn with the materials that are given to them and what their teacher can provide.
Studies have proven that students in the ASD need hands-on activities to help them learn. My class covers 6th, 7th and 8th graders, and being in middle school they are faced with many challenges.
My students are incredible; they are hungry to learn new things but they also need to be given the chance to be challenged and achieve greatness. We are a Title I Performance Improvement school, with 100% participation in the free lunch program. Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, my students have an insatiable love of learning! I know that with the right support, they will achieve greatness.
My Project
Many students on the Autism Spectrum Disorder are visual learners. Different colors on an otherwise dull worksheet will help them to maintain interest, follow step-by-step processes, and focus on highlighted key information.
My students need a color printer in their classroom to give them these vital boosts.
They will be able to create their own colorful projects, sharing what they have learned with others. All subject areas benefit from using colored charts, graphs, maps and pictures.
There are many more pluses when students (all students, regardless of ability) have access to color printers. Science, math, history, and art lessons would not be same in a monochromatic world.
