My students need dissection equipment, anatomical models, and astronomy equipment to enhance learning and assist in knowledge retention in the science field at our school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my high school have not had many interesting labs by the time they reach their senior year. Given that many students want a career in the science field, I want to see them walking the stage with experience and understanding that they lacked in science before.
My school is an outstanding campus, full of bright teachers and eager-to-learn students.
Funding is definitely an issue, as we are students here have a low socioeconomic status and generally make up 90% free and reduced lunch on campus. Unfortunately, what funding my school does get generally goes to the athletics department or somewhere unseen. My students are imaginative and complete characters. I feel that they deserve colorful and fun labs, hands-on activities and things that most of them have not been able to experience in a science classroom/lab room thus far in their academic careers.
My Project
This project is for about five different science classes such as Astronomy, Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, Environmental Systems and Aquatic Science. In astronomy, students will now be able to visualize stars and components of the solar system using the glowing star model. In anatomy, our current students have had to learn anatomical features of the human body using a skeleton that is in many pieces due to overuse. They will now be able to interact with and learn about the skeletal and musculature system with ease. My aquatic science students will be able to dissect with proper equipment that isn't rusted and missing vital things like a sharp scalpel. The skates would be a brand new dissection never done on my campus and would love to incorporate them with our Chondrichthyes lecture. Finally, biology and environmental students have to cover the water cycle and plate tectonics, therefore the globes and water cycle activity will assist in the hardest topics students have to cover.
Many of our students lack the background and experience to be completely aware of everything science has to offer.
This typically makes science, biology specifically, a struggle when it comes to state testing and graduation rates. I believe donations will assist in enhancing student learning and giving visuals and kinesthetic learning to students that lack retention just by listening to lectures and taking notes. Science should be FUN and full of inquiry and our students deserve that experience.
