This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am blessed to teach at a Title I middle school in Charlotte, NC. With over one dozen languages spoken and 34 nations represented, our school is home to a diverse population of outstanding students. I have the honor of teaching future engineers, educators, activists, and so much more! Engage any one of my scholars in conversation regarding their future and you will be blown away by their passion and planning.

Each of my students brings a piece of themselves to our school, creating a cultural foundation like no other.

All of my scholars deserve the materials and opportunities to accomplish their varying dreams. Thank you for making this next step that much easier for them!

My Project

Have you ever forgotten a word or phrase, only to be instantly reminded of it later in the day when a visual cue brings the idea to the forefront? This is the exact purpose of anchor charts and posters hanging on the walls of a classroom! My students learn new vocabulary terms daily; these include parts of an atom, the layers of Earth, and elements within the periodic table. It is SO important for us to have clear and colorful visuals spread throughout our learning environment to further foster our understanding of concepts.

My students are brilliant, bright, and speak over one dozen languages collectively!

We have a blast investigating science together, and for us, images and graphs are a universal language. I often times create anchor charts myself that I know will most clearly support the instructed vocabulary. Anchor chart paper and markers will allow me to continue to provide vibrant reference posters for my scholars, and the clothing rack and hangers will provide easy storage! Additionally, posters like the large and colorful periodic table are a necessity for any science classroom. My students refer to the periodic table throughout the course of the year, and this addition would be a beloved and valued staple!

I have seen firsthand how visuals boost confidence and enhance wonder in the classroom, and I am looking forward to providing even more opportunities for engagement for my students!
