My school is located in a rural area on the outskirts of a larger city. Education is valued in the community, and parental support is high. While these things are a huge asset, we often face setbacks when it comes to funding for extra things such as technology.
Our students are eager to learn and achieve to their highest potential.
Many times, limited funding does not allow for the purchase of all that we would like to provide students. The school seeks outside funding sources to provide additional resources that will challenge and excite students to learn. My hope for students is that the education they receive today will build a foundation for them to grow and become leaders of change in the future.
My Project
I see a growing need for students to acquire research skills needed in Science, but also in life. Students have so many skills that are untapped when it comes to locating and using information for research. This year I started by giving students 1 research project each nine weeks.
I immediately saw how much they struggled and see a trend for all students who have the potential, but have not been given the chance to learn and practice these skills as often as they should.
I am asking for 2 iPads for students to use for research purposes in my class to improve not only science and engineering skills but also information literacy skills. This is a life skill students need.
