This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What makes my students special is their drive to learn! This year I have students who are in their first year of full English instruction. It's exciting to see their determination to learn in a language that is relatively new for them in terms of academics.

My students are from the first or second Mexican American generation, and they live in a 95% minority neighborhood.

Ninety-five percent of these students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our school is 95% low income and is located in the heart of a community that is changing drastically. The majority of our teachers are extremely hardworking and work extended hours in order for us to provide the best education to our students!

My Project

Students have been losing those social skills that board games gave us when we were children. Technology has been great but it has taken out the opportunity for students to interact. Many students don't know how to work in groups, take turns nor build their social skills in learning. So these board games would allow my students to build many essential life learning skills needed.

These social board games would give my students an opportunity to socialize with their peers.

I chose some old favorite board games like trouble, Uno, Scramble, and Connect Four. These games will build my students communication, logical and reasoning skills. In my classroom we have a 15 minute block of incorporating social emotional learning skills. These resources would help my students apply all the social skills we have been discussing and practicing in class. I also think these resources would help build stronger peer relationship because of the opportunity these games give in interacting with each other.
